Gallery Installation
Dimensions: 4 ft. x 4 ft. x 2 ft. (H)
Materials: Video monitors, DVD players, DVDs, Audio
Completed: 2009
This work was curated by Mireille Eagan as part of the group show "What Remains" at the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown, PEI. I utilized eight television monitors of various shapes and sizes to construct an anthropomorphic "mound" that appears as if it could collapse at any moment.
On five of the monitors, extreme close-up video footage of blinking, twitching eyeballs plays in a continuous, rapid loop, while the remaining three monitors showcase mouths performing abstract movements. The installation is further enhanced by gospel instrumental music emanating from audio speakers discreetly positioned beneath the mound. The DVD players are double-stacked, extending tendril-like from the base of the mound, creating an intricate and dynamic visual and auditory experience that invites viewers to engage with the work on multiple levels.
